I would recommend joining an established group first, the travel is somewhat irrelevant as even if you form a local group you will end up travelling all over the country to the public shows and private battles etc. Get a couple of years experience of the scene, get your kit right etc, before startin...

Gotta agree with you there KK, for years my favourite part of reenacting was always the private battles (Bristol, LLandrindod Wells, Swinnerton, Pip Park, Thetford, Mereworth, Longmoor etc etc) but nobody does them now! Swanning around Public Shows is the height of most people's ambition! Not reenac...

No, it was a RAU respray, used to be my helmet...
There are stamped markings inside the skirt, but I can't remember, think it was ET series...? John will have to confirm..

I would definitely strip it first as a matt paint over the top is going to scratch off really easily. Get it to bare metal then prime etc in the usual way, much more durable!

If you must age it, wash first to shrink the seams (they buckle up slightly) then using a very fine sandpaper lightly skim the 'highlights'. Other than that let them get dirty, wipe your hands on the trousers when eating, spill stuff, throw yourself on the ground, sleep in them.... they'll soon lose...
