Re: Looking for a Kar98 Russian capture rifle for sale in U.
LHistorian: I am in California and I own a K98 with a bolt that has what appears to be Russian post-war electro-pen marking on it. The rest of the receiver/breech area does NOT show signs of Russian "ownership", such stamped X's. But it would seem that the bolt, at least, has been to Borsc...

Re: WWII German low boots (Schnurschuhe ) photos.
Herr Kessler, I found some pictures in Michael Olive and Robert Edwards, "Operation Barbarossa 1941" (soft cover, Stackpole Books 2012). I don't have the time to scan and post the pics, so I will describe them (with page number, so you can grab a copy and look them up): Page 9: Rear-echelo...

Re: ID Disks (Erkennungsmarke)
The German-language Lexicon-der-Wehrmacht web site (www.lexicon-der-wehrmacht.de) has the associated "Ersatz" unit information for many German regiments. For my regiment (125. Pz. Gr.) it shows that, in summer 1943, when 125. was re-built (original unit destroyed in Tunisia a few months ea...

Re: WWII German low boots (Schnurschuhe ) photos.
I have a book on Barbarossa which, as I recall, has some photos of Germans in Schnurschuhe. I will look tonight and post something tomorrow if I find it. It seems not to have been a "common" thing to see in 1941 (as you've been able to tell from examining photos). A bit more common in 1942...

Re: Kt vs Sani?
By the way, if anyone is interested, I re-pop the "small" bandages -- outer cloth cover, middle "gummihulle," inner paper wrapper and bandage. My model was an original bandage which I (don't hit me!) disassembled "in the interest of science," in order to get accurate me...

Re: Kt vs Sani?
Actually, meine Herren, a distinction needs to be made between the Krankentraeger and the Hilfs krankentraeger. Two different fellows. In the Kriegsstarkenachweisen (K.St.N. - organization charts or unit TO&E's) of the early war years, an infantry company (for example) would be authorized one &q...
