Most of them were produced in 1943, the war in Africa stopped in May 1943.
There is no evidence for using them in Africa.
I have some photos from Luftwaffen soldiers in Sicily and South Italy in late 1943, thats it.

May be you are both right... The problem ist, that Steve sold some "SM Wholesale" shoes to Lomax for SMW- price, but they aren´t made from his mexican shoemaker. At this time Lomax sells Fallschirmjägerstiefel from Steve for only 59 EUR, but the aren´t well made... I think this is the same...
