Re: Looking for recommendations for man-portable radio rigs
For clarification, it doesn't have to be easily operable in it's original state, nor does it have to be original. A completely modern reproduction that looks accurate, and would allow for a FRS radio (or the equivalent) to be rigged up/concealed inside, would be ideal. The powers that be are just tr...

Looking for recommendations for man-portable radio rigs
My [German] unit is looking into purchasing a couple of man portable radios for field use, and I'm wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction. I've seen a few examples where people have scratch built units and ended up with great results, but ultimately we're looking for something t...

Mercator K55K Knives
Anyone know if there are any sure fire ways to determine if a particular example is wartime or prewar?

Spade - Swiss, German, something else?
I suspect this spade may be Swiss in origin, but it lacks the brass pin in the grip that Swiss shovels seem to always have. I can't see any markings on it, but they may well be buried under the paint. Can anyone tell if this is Swiss, German, or something else? http://i.imgur.com/U6B5hXE.jpg http://...

That's a good tidbit of info, even just in terms of filling out one's Soldbuch. Thanks!

Re: Civilian Radio Broadcast Reception Ranges?
Well we monitored them in England. Being an American - read up on Jack Mullin. Not strictly about radio per se - but interesting nonetheless. Remember German Radio Broadcasts reached Stalingrad - Lord Haw Haw reached London nightly. and that was from Berlin. That helps. I've got a Kreta event comin...

Civilian Radio Broadcast Reception Ranges?
I've got a setup where I shoehorn an iPod and some speakers into the shell of an old radio, so that we can have some semblance of period music and radio broadcasts. Try to tailor that for each event, so that we don't end up hearing about the fall of Stalingrad in 1944 events, and so on. I was hoping...

Re: CAN I USE THIS ON AN M43 TUNIC? WOULD THIS BE CORRECT?
It's all a balancing act really. I like the idea of having some original kit with me, but weigh it against the durability and value of the item. All of my Feldbluse have original buttons (either dug from Stalingrad or from Poland). I wear a ground dug IAB from Kursk on my field tunic that cost me al...

FWIW, the only members of the SS to receive SS Long Service Awards (in addition to what all other uniformed NSDAP personnel received, the NSDAP Long Service Crosses), were career enlistee members of the Waffen-SS (formerly SS-VT), cadre personnel of the SS-Junkerschulen, and permanent members of SS-...

Re: Did Soldats in a Division come from the same region?
Yes. There would be a replacement battalion assigned to that Wehrkreis that would be the feeder to the Division. There were exceptions of course, specialists transferred in, new officers, etc.. So it would be an Ersatz Battalion? Ex: I/Ersatz.Btl.223? Probably not, actually. It's apparently a bit o...

I'd be interested, either in the repop documents or in the conversion of the originals to repops.

That's a lot of dental work for an SS man  Seriously though, the handwriting looks great. The only tweaks that I can see would be the use of some more stamps as suggested earlier, the inclusion of the lazarett's name on the medical page, and the crossing out of previously issued weapons and...
