Re: Hiki DAK gear?
Here you go Stig Only just seen this..... M42 style in palm print? I'd also agree that the insignia on HIKI DAK kit is utter junk. Cut it off and burn it. The new Dak bevo eagles from Morigi have a good colour but I cant agree with what he says about being easier to fold and cut. They are a nightma...

Re: Say NO to the Anachronistic Crusher
Also i picked "white waffenfarbe" because this colour after 41 was ordered to be worn by all SS Units apparantly, white piping replaced all other colour??, if anybody can add to this would appreciate it, cheers Pipes, Re piping, for the SS (unlike the Heer), it was white piping on visors ...

Re: Say NO to the Anachronistic Crusher
I'm glad this thread has come up, because there seems to be a high level of confusion about the use of "crushers" and confusion between the different types of crushers/visor caps. Below is a post I recently put on another thread, but the abridged version of my understanding is: Heer: 1) Cr...

Re: Czech Hedgehogs
Good work!
I remember seeing a German group (forget which now) a few years back making these and painting the final coat in water based paint mixed with iron filings - so that real rust would form on the surface....
You've got a good effect going with just paint though..

Re: Box files
I can't find any images, and I'm not sure it is exactly what you are looking for, but it seems that the "modern" ring binder / lever arch file was developed in Germany in the 1880s - according to Wikipedia: " German Friedrich Soennecken invented ring binders in 1886 in Bonn, Germany. ...

Re: Heer Crusher cap
AFAIK white piping on headgear is correct for all units unless you're after a private purchase number - in which case a careful hour with a colored fabric pen will do the job. No, this is not the case for the Heer - waffenfarbe piping applied to all HEER visors, whether they were issue or private p...

Re: Heer Crusher cap
This is one of my pet hates..! The wearing of "crushers" by Heer NCO re-enactors is a complete "reenactorism". There was no such thing as a crusher for anyone apart from Officers in the Heer. There are two kinds of cap involved, that re-enactors seem to have muddled up (sorry to ...

Re: M42 Painting
Is it for a Heer helmet or an SS one? If it is a Heer helmet, it is a myth that they were grey, apart from during a very brief period between 27th January 1940 - 21st March 1940, when orders called for helmets to be painted in smooth , matt, slate grey , with double decals - this applying to some ve...

Re: "Mountain" rucksack
Is it this SOF one that you mean? http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/products/R7B95HFJ_Thumbnail.jpg If so, despite them describing it as a mountain rucksack, it isn't, it's the infantry battle rucksack, based on the earlier M31 Mountain Rucksack. There were lots of different models in use, including comm...
