Hello from Saltburn-By-The Sea

Post by Feldwebel Shaw »

Just to say Hello to everyone,im new here, and would like to know of any Axis Re-enactment groups in my area.
I would be interested in joining any such groups.
I recently split with a long-term girlfriend after 15 yrs together, and think it would be good for me socially.
Ive always had an interest in German military equipment, and would like to be involved in this as a hobby.
Yours
Marc

Hi, welcome to the forum, what is it you want to get involved with? Eg SS, Heer, Fallschirmjager?

Regards,

Gary.

Dont you mean almost identical uniforms[the insignia varies] and exactly the same equipment? :D
Only real difference is the use of more camo by SS.

Marc, I think it would be a good idea if you looked in your local area for WWII events, go see what is out there. I spent four years looking at different groups, chatting to the members, taking pics of their kit, finding out a bit more about what they do before I joined my group.

And I knew exactly what area I wanted to concentrate on!

Have a look at the "groups" link at the top of this page, you will see there is much variety.

Regards,

Gary.

After some serious thought I think Heer would be most appropriate.
People still have very strong negative feeling towards anything that represents SS.
Any advice on sourcing uniform and equipment would be greatly appreciated.
Also any advice on the legality of RIF weapons would be appreciated.
[not much of a soldier without a weapon!]
Also...any info on north east uk groups would be a great help.
With thanks
Marc

Spend some time using the search facility on this and other forums Marc. You will find much info on what you seek. Don't rush headlong into spending loads of dosh on stuff until your either find a group or decide on a definite portrayal for yourself.
Stoneleigh is coming up 30 Jan and that is a good fair to attend to see stuff in the flesh as it were.
Groups attend shows nationwide (usually) and don;t tend to see each other much outside of that - although some do have training events and the odd social - so broadly speaking find a group that fits your needs and contact it. Don't rush into anything - or you might find yourself with people who, while being nice and good at what they do - perhaps don't do what you want to do.
There's no such thing as a daft question (except maybe "What am best gun?") so ask away.

It sometimes takes a bit to break in and feel comfy but once you do you will find we are a good bunch - Ask Peiper
(Sorry Loz - just feeding your paranoia  )

Yo...Sparky...
Ive never been one to worry too much about what others think,
But i dont really wish to upset anyone.
As Hoffman Grink says, maybe i should check out a few things and see what really suits before i empty by bank account!
When i throw myself into something i dont tend to do it by halves...
I also have an interest in heavy weaponry...so you see...ive a bit of thinking to do.

Welcome Feldwebel Straw

Lots of expertise and experience for you to tap into. If you plummed to early war Heer then the only problem you may encounter is obtaining stone grey trousers which was the iconic look of the German soldier at that time.

Not impossible to find though ... ve have our sources lol

At the end of the day don't worry about what other people think/negative or otherwise regarding your chosen impression...do what you want, after all it's your own spare time and ultimately a large amount of your hard earned money. Cheers
Hanging up my Knochensack for now, it's been a good war!
