Gruss gott

Post by grieffenberg »

Hello I am Dietrich, I am a former Canadian solider, and currently work as a chief. I have an associates degree in history and cultural anthropology. my interest in ww2 re-enactment comes from wanting to better understand to a certain extent what my grandfathers would have experienced during ww2, I also miss the camaraderie I had well in the forces.

Grüß Di' Dietrich,

Herzlich Willkommen! We look forward to your input to the group.

What did your grandfathers do during the war?

Mit einem kameradschaftlichen Horrido!

my paternal grandfather was an infantry general in the wehrmacht, and my maternal grandfather was a fallschrimjager but spent most of the war as a pow in Canada. I never got a chance to get to know my paternal grandfather as he passed away before I was born.

Servus Dietrich,

So your paternal grandfather was Hans, who attended the U.S. Army Command and General Staff School, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas for the school year 1932-1933 as a foreign student and a Major in the German Army at the time? Cool stuff.

Regards,
Patrick

I was not aware he had attended an officers school in the us, but then again I do not know much about him other then his rank and that he died in 1951. but it could very much be him :), I also know he wrote some books on warfare, one I believe on fighting insurance or something like that.
