German equivalent to US first aid kit?

Post by askhati »

Hi all

I recently ran across these US first aid kits:

The tin is small (about the size of an Altoid tin), and houses a single dressing and sulfanilamide sachet. Did the DRK/Sani personnel have something similar? If yes, does anyone have details and/or pics?

Those were the US issue individual first aid kit. Every man carried one in a special pouch on his belt. There is an orange version that differs slightly in its contents.
The German equivalent was carried in the pocket inside the front of the tunic. It was a simple affair, cloth wrapped and closed with string. I think regulations called for two, one large and one small but others will correct me on that.
The British carried two packets, a large shell dressing in the rear trouser pocket and another, the first field dressing, actually two dressings in one packet, in the front right pocket.
