In need of an expert on electronics/ field phones!

Post by valkyrie895 »

Friends,

I am sure someone here is an expert on the finer points of the FF-33 field telephone, specifically the handset.
Here comes my question:

If I had a handset which was entirely intact, apart from the microphone and speaker elements, would it be possible to cannibalize these parts from a random old telephone? I can't imagine the parts being too much different. It doesn't have to be perfect, I am not afraid of really rigging it up as long as it looks fine from the outside. I plan to use these phones heavily, not baby them behind glass.

I'm sure out of all the experts here, someone could help on this!

Please advise!

You can pick up NOS ones on ebay for a few pounds.

What should I put in the search bar? I have been looking for parts for a while now and haven't come up with much outside of eBay.de, and shipping to the United States is either impossible or outrageously expensive. I am in somewhat of a hurry to get this phone operational, so a "stop gap" measure would be acceptable.

Have a look at this its in the USA and looks to be in good condition, don't be put off by its description as "British" the guy is clearly a numpty, also try the "see similar items" button. There are a huge amount of F33 units and associated kit on fleebay some of it over priced and quite a lot of bargains!

The plug on that makes me think FF54. They are not compatible.

I found a guy selling a complete handset. A little pricey, but if I get it, the phone is complete.

Thanks to all who have helped!
