There were 4 types:
Ton S c
Ton S d
Ton S b1 (V)
Ton S b1 (L)

The latter 2 required mains voltage, the former 2 could run off normal radio batteries.
I have a little technical information on them (such as valve types etc.). THey could be used in conjunction with receiver/transceiver sets and telephones to record messages and, vice versa, be used to play back messages as well. From what I can gather they were most commonly used by propaganda units in the field who would play messages over the frequencies being used by the enemy. I'll see what eslse I can find.

The do occasionally come up for sale - a Ton S d sold about 4 months ago for GB£1100 (about US$2200).

Ivan is a member of our group, and he made it very slowly over about 18 months by hand!

I'll see what pictures I can find. We've already looked at doing a 'conversion' on a 60s/70s reel-to-reel machine, and it's not easy. I think only 1 or 2 were suitable.

From memory I think the Ton S d was a viable conversion because of the size and the arrangement of the reels.
