One or two allied groups over here have started to use low powered repeaters for comms during tacticals, they hook them up to a 12 volt motorbike battery and put them up a tree, this increases the rage of the radios but they are being very quiet as to where they obtained them..
Any ideas?

Re: GMRS Repeaters
I'd imagine they come from amateur (ham) radio dealers.
Surly that defeats the purpose of the exercise though - WW2 pack wireless sets had a very limited transmission range (e.g. Feld fu - less than 1000m and you needed line of sight with the receiving station!). I can appreciate there is a safety issue with having good comms, but...!

Re: GMRS Repeaters
yes the line of sight is a good point, I would still like play with one of these at our next event, I'm not looking for something hi powered, just a watt or two enough to carry the signal a little further
