Volks Radio?

Post by GR916/15/14 »

Hi all,

Where might I find an original volks radio with all original electrics and in good condition? Can be a 3rd Reich Volks Radio or any 1920's 1930's and war time 1940's Radio. Price Range £150-£350?

Thanks,
Nathan

German ebay, plain and simple. Been chasing for one for a while (but they can be pricey - also, many will not send to UK cos of the weight). Failing that, I have dimensions, dial etc so may make a wooden one and stick and mp3 player in it with a speaker with period recordings. Job done :) Just type in 'Volksempfänger'.

Hi Steinmetz,

Thanks for the reply, Pricey  , you can say that again (more than once  ). My German isn't all that but thanks for 'Volksempfänger' :D . It helps alot :D ! Can the old, old plugs have an adapter for modern plugs and sockets  :? ? Making a replica sounds good (How would I go about it though :? ) if I can get good original that would be great also.

Thanks :D :P ,

If you do get one this place should be able to refurbish it if needed:

Probably some questions for Feldjager.

Just taken delivery of one. It's been fully tested and ready to use but I have 2 questions:

1) It needs an external earth. Is the socket for the earth a 6.5mm jack socket? Is there any problem with connecting it to a 3 pin plug, just connecting to the earth pin in the plug and using a plug socket to do the earthing?

2) It needs an external ariel which has been suggested to be a 5m copper wire. There is an unused TV co-axial socket in the room where the radio will be used leading to a disused TV ariel in the loft. Can I connect to that? Again are the ariel sockets 6.5mm jack sockets?
