Good Soldbuecher are hard to find. The guy out in CA doesn't have the paper to make them anymore.

But, in regards to "filling out" services, the best I have seen is done by Chris Pittman.

Hi Nick
Here's a couple of random pics from my Soldbuch as requested to give you an idea, there were
a few mistakes with the stampings where ive slipped or the ink has gone through overleaf but as
far as i know the info is translated correctly and in the right places, although on some originals were
stamping mistakes, ive used different inks etc to give the impression the entries were written randomly
and at different times by different people.

With a bit of practice you could write in 'suterlin' script.John

Cheers John :D
Thats what i was trying to emulate when copying original examples but couldn't get the flourish
properly as the ink kept soaking through as you can see lol

I know it not the easiest thing to do,I did my own based on an original Luftwaffe pay book I have.In the past within the SBG,Steve Goodman used to fill in paybooks, still doe's when he is over from NZ,also Albert from Spain can do it at W&P.

That's not at all bad Piper. I am sure that slipping while stamping and ink bleeding through the pages was not at all uncommon so should be a plus not a minus.

I believe that sutterlin script was proscribed for official use by the 3rd Reich so your Soldbuch should not be filled in using it (ref from a book currently unavailable for me to check so happy to be corrected).

edit to add: Just checked. Sutteriln was banned in 1941.

I have the book "papers please",it states it was replaced in the german volkschule in 1941,so any one educated before that date would still use it out of habit I would of thought, anyway here are some page's from my luftwaffe sold buch although it is not true sutterlin, some of the letters still contain some of the style of it.

Incidently the german alphabet I posted is from a 1946 English universities press german/english dictionary, first published in 1945 so contains a lot of pre-war terms.I hope it is useful to other members.I do not pretend to know everything and will pass on information if I can,I try not to be rude,INSULTING YES! but never rude  .John
