We did today a battlefield tour around the area at Celles (Belgium). Starting point was the Panther G at the crossroads. It was the leading Panther of Kampfgruppe von Cochenhausen (second Heer Panzer Division) that after detonating a mine, on 24 december 1944, was left immobilised in a field for some time after the war. During that period all the road wheels, tracks and hatches where remouved.

Then it was moved to the crossroads and put in front of a cafe as monument.

How it looks now in 2009.

Going towards the small village of Foy-Notre-Dame, where just three miles short of the river meuse the German attack came to an halt.
Oberleutnant Siebert's Puma was one of the vehicles left behind in the village.

Same spot in 2009,

At the Mahenne farm just outsite Foy, three Panthers took up a position dominating the junction of all the roads there, these where destroyed in allied air attacks and later shot up by British tanks.

These type of boards are standing at several points around Celles telling the story what happend there, this one is at the farm.

A field north of the crossroads where all the captured or abandoned equipment from the Kampfgruppe was assembled.

Now an empty field.

And to close this story from one of the boards,

Hello Patrick, here are some more photos of Truppenfahrräder to see, ideal for this kind of battlefield tours.
