Royal Air Force Laarbruch (Weeze) Museum

Post by Bill Medland »

Royal Air Force Laarbruch (Weeze) Museum

I have been on the museum staff for two years and about six weeks ago we opened our second building
on a former RAF camp in Germany. This building which was once the SPARKASSE bank is now dedicated
to remembering the traditions and gunners of the RAF Regiment (Luftwaffe Infanterie for our German readers).

I am one of a small band of proud former members of this Regiment, who have formed a "Museums Project Group"
to keep alive the memory of the RAF Regiment in Germany during the post-war period. Four of us are reenactors
who will be taking part in WW2 displays in the coming year.

For more information click on the banner at the bottom of my signature.

Cheers, Bill.

Do you remember how they would give you the money, you would be counting it and
they would snatch it out of your hand and take some back because the exchange rate
had changed a few seconds before!

Fantastic, Im looking at some time away in September, unsure whether to do Arnhem, Dusseldorf or Berlin. But the first two mean I have to fly into Weeze.

Let me know when you arrive Tom and Beate will cook you a meal before you move on,
if I am home from work, I will open the museum for you.
Best wishes, Bill.

ive been to the museum that was situated in the church but not the new section, my dad was stationed at Laarbruch between 86-89, i loved it there the best posting my dad ever had! its sad to see the base the way it is now though, but at least its not derelict like alot of old air force bases, oh the museum is fantastic! Kev took me up there to have a look a few years back
