Here's the lake at Agios Nikolaios, June 2010, its not changed much visually, the main difference is tourism!!!
For those interested in German/Med type areas, Saint Nik was the main retreat, departure point for the Axis troops from Crete.

I was on Kreta in Mai 91 for the 50. aniversary of the Battle. Should go back some day.

Here is a poor photo of Bruno Brauers grave stone and one looking out over Malme Airfield from the top of Hill 107. Also of the wreaths laid by the Germans durring the commeration/remembrance cerimonies.

Chancellor Helmut Kohl (center of photo) who was the speaker at the cerimonies.
And a close up of him, He walked by us at arms lenght when entering the area.
The last if of a Gebirgsjäger Lt who got to Kreta by wading ashore from his JU 52 which was shot down and crashed just off the beach. He went from Kreta to russia.
