Try this place too. Over looking Berchtesgarten in the Obersalzburg. Go up in the "golden" lift, actually polished brass. Well worth a visit. It's a nice bus ride up the mountain!

Been there too - done that! chuffing brilliant! The bus ride is something else! And the view - I've done a panoramic montage and it's breathtaking. I'll try to host it somewhere and put a link up. Fancy - I've had me lunch on the Fuhrer's patio! And a beer! ther's me with Schnitzel and bier and the Alte Man was veggy and teetotal! If I'd have smoked Id have had a fag too! I also can claim to have had a toilet moment on his (well not actually his) khazi - It was in his house anyway....

Had a great snack and also used the bog. We were lucky enought to be the only people in the lift on the way down apart from the lift attendant. And that corridor! What an echo, Janine jabbed me in the ribs to stop me marching down it. Unfortunately the view wasn't good, lots of low cloud and it even snowed. :D

For those who decide to visit, don't forget the Kehlsteinhaus is only open between May & September.

I know people who have made special trips outside those times and missed it.

And what a must for everyone going to Bavaria...and thus a must for the Medlands!

But take a bus...oh no, all the way up by foot and down. Bill just had to get the real feeling and me all the real looks, as I felt quite freezing in the corridor towards the lift, pulled up the collar of my coat, but did not know that Bill had put the a party badge underneath it

It was a great experience, even though I had a strange feeling seeing so many tourists trampling on German history.

Liebe Grüße,
Beate

Some of us do not trample Beate - we tread carefully.... and we look and touch and..... try to steal bits of the fireplace!

I know and when referring to tourists, I had the stereotype tourist in mind; icecream in one hand, camera in the other, saying: I love Butchersgarden! Not the stereotype "Reenctor / Historian" on the hunt for relicts, armoured with a rucksack that could take the whole of the "Eagle´s Nest"

Liebe Grüße,
Beate

Kussen to Beate! (hope Bill don't mind!)
I know - I never feel like a tourist in Germany - My missus laughs like a drain at me..... She says I'm Fat Mermann come back to haunt them when I strut around the town square looking for schnellimbis or stuff..... and when I inflict my atrocious German on them..... But they seem to love it and I love them...... (in fact sometimes I love some of them so much I wish I'd left my missus at home!)

It's like when we went to Neuschwanstien - Garishly dressed 60 something US tourist rounds the corner and sees the schloss... with a voice like a shark's arse she screams
"HEY HAROLD! COME LOOK - A REAL LIVE GERMAN CASTLE!"
I mentally cocked my P.38.......

Here it is, the fabled Italian marble fireplace. This was given as a gift to Hitler from Mussolini. The chunks knocked out of it were taken as souvenirs, mainly by GI's.

Another attraction is the Hotel Turken. This is situated at the rear of the Berghof site, and it has a labyrinth of tunnels beneath it. The Hotel was used by the SD during the war years.

Brilliant pics and just as I remember it. I've noticed that my photos are no longer on my post, however :(

The first time I went to the Kehlsteinhaus I saw a photograph of Eva Braun and Hitler sitting on top of the marble fireplace. However, in recent years this photo seems to have been removed.
