Just outside Ostende, bunkers from WW1 and WW2 fully restored to Museum standards , guns in situ , dressed mannequins , fully equipted.
I only visited the WW2 complex which is backed up by an advanced aduio commentery on what you see.
En route the whole complex is explained from point of construction to the German withdrawl in 1944.
Much of the walking is through brick built tunnels through the sand dunes , many of which have yet to be re openned.

Allow about 3 hours plus , longer if you ant to do the WW1 section , well worth seeing.
Ostende is surrounded by bunkers , killing a day here - no problem.

The links above provide some photocverage to the complex - my scanner is US at the moment so I can't upload 35mm photos to it.

Three years ago Alan , this is only a fraction of what the complex holds.
I have been told that at the end of the year evyering is packed up and moived into secure storgae - and at the start of the next season it is all out back in place - the threat of theft.

Nice pics, from looking at that wartime photo and the one above that soldier stood in the doorway looks quite short!

Yes , your guess is correct - correction made- my mistake on that definately on the Northern Coast !. :

The approaches to Antwerp along the Scheldt do contain quite a mass of German fortifications which had to be fought hard for in 1944 having seen some of these earlier that day the error came from that "melt".
