thought i would give a list of prices of Reproduction Japanese kit for anyone thinking about maybe getting some of this stuff.

all of these prices are either for reproduction equipment or good condition originals which can be used but the reproduction kit is as good as anything Richard Underwood makes but for a fraction of the cost of German kit

Only my winterjacket and trousers cost me more than that

Do you've got a pic from the inside of a original haversack ?
Can buy one for $18 (repro) which can be sent with my other goodies

who long till that book of yours arrives, because theres a picture in it of the inside of the haversack but i don't think i'll be able to get a decent picture of it done. there pretty simple inside, its just divided into a front and back compartments. but for $18 you can't really go wrong mate

going to be getting involved in abit of selling of genuine Japanese uniform and equipment pieces, should have some samples at Beltring. Complete uniform sets will be available but if ayone wants anything specific let me know and we'll see what we can do

I live in Alabama, USA and was in reenacting in the past, mainly US Civil War in the 1980s and early '90s, then with a Waffen SS unit for a short time in the mid 1990s. But I am 53 now and out of shape and have a horrible work schedule so have given up any hope of reenacting again. As far as Japanese reenacting goes, forgive me for asking probably an ignorant question, but do Caucasions portray Japanese or is Japanese reenacting restricted to people of Japanese or oriental descent (Just curious)? That would look odd to me, to see some big, brawny white boy in a Japanese uniform and outfit. But I am a big white guy and love to wear my repro Japanese helmet or my Naval Landing Force EM field cap. I might look funny but I think they are neat. I love that movie "Greatest Raid" if for no other reason because there are a lot of good views of Japanese uniforms and equipment.

Anyway, I too think Japanese WWII history is very interesting as is their military and their gear, having recently gotten into it, spending my life studying the European theater up to now. I am planning on putting together a display, slowly aquiring some repro stuff to do it. I want to get some maniquins and have them dressed up representing the major participants in WWII: Germany, Russia, British commonwealth, the U.S. and Italy. So far I have rifles from Germany, Russian, and Japan. I have a repro Japanese helmet with net, infantrymen's belt rig w/ammo pouches and bayonet (Original). I want to get more but can't find a good repro Japanese canteen. Anyone know where I can find one? I would love to find a uniform to fit me, but I have given up on finding any uniforms of any kind to fit me, German or Japanese (I am 6'1" and weigh 320), but I will still get uniforms for my displays. I also have a repro German helmet and belt and bayonet so far (DAK). I have Russian helmet and cartridge pouches for my Russian impression too so far too. Slowly but surely I will collect enough to creat my soldier outfittings. It is a very interesting hobby and a lot of fun. I drank several beers last night at a friends and we watched "Kelly's Heros". He also collects like I do and he wore his M43 cap and I my German helmet. Then when I left I drove all the way home, several miles away, wearing my helmet. I reckon folks thought I was cracked in the head when they saw me. But who cares, I was having a blast. I have worn my Japanese helmet driving around too, and wear my Japanese NLF EM Field Cap all over too.

I forgot to add, I can find most of what I want for my impression on line, but have not been able to find a repro Japanese canteen anywhere. Do they even make them or would you have to find an original? I have an original that was found in a cave on Okinawa, but it is caved in on one side and the lower half is stained dark and even black as if they were using it to heat water. I want a repro so I can wear it when I go hunting or dress up in my Japanese gear and can drink out of it.

Thanks for taking the time for answering all my posts and crazy questions. I have since seen pics of two or three Japanese reenactment groups and naturally there were non-orientals in the unit. What a stupid question that was. And also, have since found some nice repro canteens like you said, from china, with defent prices too!

Did I tell you that I have an original one found in a cave on Okinawa a few years ago? It has no stopper or straps and caved in on the flat side as if a blast or someone's hip did falling on it. The lower half is al blackened as if they had been heating water in it over a fire. It is a neat piece of history. I have thought of cleaning it up and trying to use it, but I have decided to leave as it is as an interesting historical piece.
