Back from shopping at Nakata's...

Post by Sturmannlee »

Mina-San,

Some of you may recall that I seeked advice on the whereabouts of militaria shops for my recent trip to Japan.

Well, I managed to find the all famous and always spoken about Nakata Shoten militaria shops...Yes, I found and "invaded" them both. :D

Directions on how to go there:

Firstly, I had a splendid seven day stay in Hokkaido. Ate a lot of seafood and played a lot of snow. Then I went to Tokyo...

Ok, get on the Japan Rail (JR) system on the YAMANOTE line. You can't get lost as this line igoes in a circular fashion around Tokyo itself. Both Nakata shops are closely located near to UENO station. Alight there and exit by the "CENTRAL EXIT". Once out on the mqain road, cross the main street into the UENO FLEA MARKET area. If you walk straight for about 3-5 mins, you can find the Tactical Nakata shop directly under the railway line. Hard to miss.

For the WW2 Nakata outlet, it's located on the left-hand side and adjacent of the Tactical shop. This requires about 3 more of walking time.

The WW2 shop is situated along an alley. The storefront is rather messy...

I then spent 45 mins rummaging through their stuff. The staff is quite friendly there, but they were mostly occupied with paperwork, so be patient. They have free hardcopies of their latest 2007 catalogs too.

A word of advice: They do not have all their stock on hand...so be prepared to take an alternative item, or simply be dissappointed.

Some pics of my purchases...The pics tell them all.

In all, I spent like 105,000 YEN at Nakata's alone...Luckly I still had enough money for food and a trip to Tokyo Disneyland.

I arrived back in Singapore on Dec. 21, but I did not post my purchases as they were impounded at the Singapore customs due to the NVA helmet that I bought...They wanted to see what kind of helmet I bought, but all was in the clear, and I am a happy man!

I may be going to Tokyo in late 2007, so I will be glad to help you guys buy stuff on your behalf if you want.

Cheers!

Hello Ryan,

Thanks for the reply.

The cap is a early peak service cap commonly used with the Type 90 uniforms.

What I know that these kind of caps were seldom worn after the mid-1930s.

However, I do see some mid-war pics of calvary troops still wearing that.

Well this baby looked nice and it was hard to resist not getting one.

Regards!

The shop really looks a bit disapointing from the outside :?
But the goodies you bought are very nice 8)

Unfortunatly they don't speak English

How's the rest of Tokyo? Did you have time to visit the war museum etc..?
Looking for T30 bayonet info.

Hi Ryan,

I had packed the stuff to the best of my ability...The straps gave me a problem at first. LOL

I am lacking the shovel though. I did not recal seeing them at Nakata.

To jdeleur: Sorry for the late reply. Well, the rest of Tokyo was excellent and expensive as usual. I enjoyed the nightlife and the shopping there.

Besides Nakata, I did not have the chance to visit anywhere else WW2 related. I could not even find a single Airsoft shop throughout my stay there!

Regards
