yeah because a wooden one is probaly easier to break in the field rather than a metal one, which is why they only used them when they had to and most rifles from any country had metal ones.

you keep knocking it against rock and the wooden butt plate end will get chewed up and then split.

why do you think they put metal plates on the end of wooden stocks?

because they are more durable, but it would take a while for it to break and once broken could esily and quickly be replaced

if you look at the type 11 there is nowhere to fit a magazine

on the left hand side you'll see a hopper, into this you place 5, 5-round rifle stripper clips, this is what then feeds into the gun with the clips dropping out the bottom. while this system did cause jamming problems it was in principal a very good idea, because it ment any rifleman could supply the machine gun with ammunition because it worked off there stripper clips.

the hopper, looked like a very large and strange lookingmag port, im guessing it was a slow rate of fire weapon, as 5 round clips would be used up pretty quick

the hopper ain't that big actually, just over the size of 5 rounds on a stripper clip. Overall this gun is smaller than a bren and had a rate of fire of up to 500 RPM but a practical rate of about 120RPM and you say the rounds wouldn't last long but it can hold 6 clips giving it the same capacity as a Bren. Remeber a LMG isn't designed for you to just hold the trigger down and blast away, sort controlled bursts are what it's designed for.
