Body armour

Post by jdeleur »

I know the Japanese army had body armor but was this actually worn during combat and what was the protection level?

Some pics of Japanese "vests" :

actually most armour was worn by NLF troops and was of the patterns shown in your pictures. The protection was none existent to be honest, even at longer ranges it didn't provide any real protection and as most of the combat the Japanese found themselves in was at ranges of 50yrds or less it was of no real value.

Im actually lucky enough to own a set of the body armour described as type II in the pictures an dits the only set i know of in the UK and 1 of about a dozen i know of in the world, probaly the pride of my collection

theres a picture of it in the ''Japanese army Handbook'' by A J Barker. Sort of a fish scale setup with lots of over lapping plates?
