Kampfgruppe Walther - Sicily & September - Oktober 1944

Post by Pietje »

I am looking for information about Kampfgruppe Walther during the battle of Sicily and in Holland September-October 1944... Any information will be most welcome.

Kampfgruppe Walter 1943 on Sicily:-

Fallschirm Regiment 4
Fallschirm Machine Gun Battalion 1 ++
Fallschirm Pionier Battalion
Part of Fallschirm Artillery Regiment 1
Part of Fallschirm Panzer Jager Abt 1
Kampfgruppe Stangenberg

Kampfgruppe Walther consisted in earlySeptember 44 of:-

- Fallschirmjäger Regiment 6 (v.d. Heydte)
- Kampfgruppe Heinke (bttle group of elements of 9. and 10 SS Panzer Division
- Elements of Fallschirmjager Regiment Hoffmann
- some smaller units

They were fighting against British XXX in eurly and mid September and were very succesful during the openingstage of Operation Market-Garden

Kampfgruppe Walther consisted by late September / October of:-
- several Fallschirmjäger Battalions
- Panzer Brigade 107
- SS Kampfgruppe Roestel
-Some smaller units

During this time the Kampfgruppe attacked the 101 US Airborne Division in the Son Veghel area and was able to block the British advance to Arnhem for some time.
By Oktober the Kampfgruppe retreated and was holding a defensive line near Overloon which was the centre point of one of the most fierce battles in The Netherlands...

Have you tried karel Margrys books on Market Garden, published by After the Battle in UK? Or are you looking for online references?
