[quote="der Blutiger Eimer"]. HBT shows up more often than you'd think in Russia, even a few rare instances of the white drill uniforms being worn IIRC. quote]

there is a photo in the book God, Honour, Fatherland with a guy wearing white HBT - I think its 1943.

We have a brother unit that is doing British, with strong SA roots as well, so our thoughts have been leaning ever towards the Italian theater. My only gripe with doing a Heer unit there is that, as far as my (admittedly limited) research shows, there were were no units who fought in both the Italian theater AND later in Western Europe. If someone does know of a unit like that, please let me know - our British friends want to do Italy, and the Yanks want to do France, so we're trying to accommodate both.

21st panzer division fought in Afrika, France and East Germany/Eastern Front, also arrived in sicily and were formed into kampfgruppe before the units were brought back up to strength and sent to France.

Or 15th Infantry division fought in africa, italy and western Europe.

15th Infantry sounds promising, but wikipedia seems to disagree on their operational deployment. Have any other sources that might shed more light on this?

The Division was formed on Sicily in May 1943, with Replacement untis of the Afrika Korps, which could not get to Africa anymore. Frist it was named Division "Sizilien" May-July 1943 then renamed 15.Panzergrenadier-Division in Tradition of the 15.Panzer-Division which fought in Italy.
The 15. Panzer-Division was dissolved in 1943, it never reformed again.

Thanks for the info. I see that 15th PGD Division had a 115th PGD Regiment, which in turn contained a Pioneer company - any idea where I can get more info on that company?

Heh... Thanks, it was that very same link that enlightened me to the existence of that pioneer company in the first place.

http://gregpanzerblitz.com/Germans/15PzGrenDec44.pdf
Found this as well, showing the unit composition of the 15. PGD - now I just need to decipher all the little symbols and numbers.

EDIT: okay, maybe a bit premature - that link is game info, not historic info. Damn.

If you can read German you will get many informations. I have in the moment not the time to translate. But I can help later if you want.

Thanks, I used Google Translate and managed to get the main gist of the page.

Some questions though:
- They list the pioneer company as first only the 14th, but later also the 15th company. Is this correct? (translation, other info too)
- The first paragraph has the following:
"1943 wurden alle Einheiten mit dem Vermerk Tunis gestrichen"
...which means exactly what? The Google Translate version is "1943, all units have been painted with the words Tunis", but it is hardly clear. Did they get a 'Tunis' cuff band?

askhati wrote:Now, for someone wanting to do a Waffen-SS impression, the big problem down here is that none of the W-SS divisions survived the war with a clean slate when it comes to war crimes and atrocities against civilians from the occupied zone.
Actually 6th SS-Gebirgsjäger-Division "Nord" was never accused of war crimes or cruelty towards civilians, but that's due to the fact that deep in Karelian forest there were no civilians. But that won't help you much as terrain where "Nord" fought is quite far from the terrain you described.

All the best for your unit!

Reenact a real unit or theres no point. If your making it up as you see fit its called cosplay and its a far cry from reenactment. Certain people will always be offended unfortunately that is the nature of this game. But to make up parts of history as to Simply not offend people is pointless. You ask most people why they reenact the unit they do theyll say its because its the unit there most interested in and your chosen unit should be no different.
