Great post Franz , if possible can you tell me what year did these Junkers pass out from Bad Tolz ? I was there about 10 years ago and the place still looks pretty much the same , well worth a visit.

There is a super book called "Die Junkerschulen" written by Richard Schulze-Kossens which covers the foreign officers who were comissioned to serve in the Waffen SS . Richard was the adjutant of Hitler till 1943 and served in the LAH , he was one of the last commanders of Bad Tolz .

What do you think of General Dietl's leadership of the offenses(attacks) towards Murmansk?
Have you studied it?
Are you a Finn of German Extraction?

Sorry,
I put my questions under the wrong heading.
RE: Bad Tolz
Did not the last commander of Bad Tolz become the commander of a Waffen SS mini-division composed of the personnel of Bad Tolz and others?

Sorry Franz I bought a copy of " The one that got away" on DVD, did some research on him, hes the same age as my Father.
When "A Bridge too far" came out at the cinemas in 1978 there was a paperback novel about the making of it, (I have a copy). In it reference is made to the fact that between filming scenes Hardy Kruger would take off the W-SS tunic, or he would wear a tyrolian hat to some how lesson the W-SS aspect of it all (make fun of / derride etc ).

I've always tried to stay as close to the truth as possible, even if I have to play someone extremely dangerous as this character is.
To me A Bridge Too Far really is the story of an unnecessary battle.
I think it's rather a sign of the times that Americans are now making films about Allied defeats instead of Allied victories. My feeling is that the picture is meant to show what should be avoided in the future. Where ever you go there is war: wherever you look at those wars, crimes have been committed

If Herr Kruger wanted to work in Hollywood, he would have to make several such symbolic gestures as well as frequent testimony of distaste towards the Waffen SS, Nicht War?
The SS Niebelunger Division was the one formed by Bad Tolz. That is a very interesting story.
