SS-FG

Post by sapper44 »

I have been doing a little research on the SS-FG and I have come up with a question that has me a bit stumped.
1. Some sources say that SS-FG wore ONLY the FG arm badge without the SS eagle on their arm, others say both, and still others have the SS eagle only with the SS-FG cuff title taking the place of the FG arm badge as a way to recognize the FGs.
What do you guys think?
Thanks;

There are some experts on here who will know the answer to that one Christian ?

But will say i read somewhere in one of my ref books that mid War the SS High
Command stopped the use of wearing the two cufftitles (SS Regt cufftitle and
SS Feldgendarmrie title) so only one was worn, maybe one of the F-G experts
can elaborate on this ??

The official stance...

01AUG1942 - The SS-Feldgendarmerie replaced the brown Heer FG style cuff title with the black SS-FG cufftitle. (Kdo d. W-SS/1a, V. Bl d. W-SS Nr 15)
01AUG1943 - Wearing of a second cuff title with the SS-FG title was forbidden. (SS-FHA/1a, V.Bl d. W-SS Nr 15)
15NOV1944 - The SS-FG cuff title was discontinued and the Heer police sleeve eagle was ordered to be replaced by the SS eagle (ergo, it can be concluded that prior to this date the Heer police sleeve eagle). I can't lay my hands on the order reference for this one.

There are plenty of photos which show the above being followed, likewise other photos showing it being ignored! The latter are in the minority though.

An FG on duty can be recognised by the wearing of the Gorget - it's his' badge of office'. If he has reason to assert his powers off duty, then regulations state that he can use his Soldbuch in lieu of the gorget.

Thanks guys, it seems that for late 42 to late 44 the police eagle would be worn. It seems that most of the events around here are either D-day, or just after then the police eagle should be fine on my tunic. Every once in a while they through in an Italian front or Bulge event so I may have to have two tunics.
