If you saw a tank "commander" in a uniform tunic it was probably his parade uniform. Would help if you posted the pic.
Tank crews usually wore the black wool uniform. Reasons apparent.
They wore a denim over uniform to protect the black and this unifrom was quickly adopted as a light, cool summer uniform.
They also wore in certain instances camouflaged versions of the wrap over uniform and in other instances a one piece coverall which proved unpopular.
Stug and SP Artillerie wore a field grey version of the wrap over uniform.
They also mixed and matched various uniform pieces depending on TOO and time of year....
But to say you are going to operate a fully tracked vehicle with a crew served gun in anything other than the correct uniform is sacrelidge!!!! You might as well have cornflakes without milk.
The PanzerKorps were very proud of that uniform and in operating a vehicle and diplsaying said uniform you are carrying on their tradition and remembering them and their esprit d'corps.

2 words for you - primary evidence!! Look at original photos (plenty on ebay.de) and draw your own inferances from them. An officer in a halftrack wearing an army unifrom is correct, as they are infantry, not armoured vehicle crew.ss-commander smeders wrote:dude yes or no? i have a pic

OK Smed - you're starting to bore me now - The above post effectively says NO.
I hope this now clears up the matter. First you need to obtain said vehicle. Then you need to think about a uniform. If you're as serious as your posts suggest I would recommend a set of overalls first. You ain't gonna be needing a tank uniform or anything else for a year or two.
Please - stop filling up the bandwidth with this..... We're all polite but we've seen it before - lots of times...

The Tiger at Tiger 1 was built for a film project by a team of experienced fabricators and mechanics who work every day with tracked AFVs.... It cost £26,000!!!!! plus the cost of the donor vehicle and a turret......
Is this sliding into perspective a little more? Oh - and that was about 7 years ago.... the cost of steel has gone up a touch since then....
To do properly an OT810 halftrack can cost as much as £12,000!!!!!! and that's when you know what you are doing and call in favours etc.
Think on lads - I visit workshops etc. (as do one or two more on here) where projects are ongoing that cost telephone numbers. I KNOW where there are deckplates for Ferds..... I've seen 'em lying on the floor. I've walked on 'em - Ive seen main armaments for them...... I'm priveliged enough to rub shoulders with folks who pour funds and time and resources into the vehicles we all marvel at..... If this lad is serious - then we'll see the vehicle bought and we'll see a project start...... One call to Carl and I'll know if the lad has approached him and made an offer.....
