Going off of photos found in "Shadows of War - A German Soldier's Lost Photographs of World War II" (photos by Willi Rose, edited by Thomas Eller) of the 97. Jäger division on the Ostfront beginning with Barbarossa, most photos show them wearing bergmützen with the edelweiss badge (yes, I know, only the sacred gebirgs were supposed to wear those, but there they are, many with a "spielhahnfeder" badge just beside it on the cap). I can only think of one photo with bergschue, most are wearing marching boots, with some low boots showing up later. Besides that, standard uniform, with standard web gear - Y-straps included - and his particlar battalion rode bicycles into combat.
