This Battalion is uniquie as the volunteers came from a country that was not occupied by Germany.In the spring of 1941 1200 volunteers were recruited,400 with previous combat experience(Finlands winter war) served in Wiking for the opening of Bardarossa.The rest were to form a Finnish Volunteer Battalion under the comand of SS Hauptstrmfurhrer Hans Collani who was the former adjutant to Josef "sepp" Dietrich.
Once they had finished there combat training at Gross-Born They were moved to the front and placed in the Nordland regiment part of the Wiking Division.The Battalion gained a excellent combat record in the battles of the Ukraine and Caucasus with the loss of 255 Finns.
In the spring of 1943 the Battalion was withdrawn from the front and sent to Finland on home leave the Battalion was never to return to the front it was Disbanded in the July of 43.This was due to the Finnish high command as they keep the Volunteers in Finland for its own Army that was also fighting the Russians on its Borders.Althow some did stay on and Fight with the SS till the end

113 ex SS Battlion members were killed in Finnish service
2 ended up as Goverment ministers
