pomerania uniform Feb 45

Post by SAINTLOUP »

Gentlemen
I would needsome uniformological advice in putting together a mannequin of a French volunteer during the battle of Hammerstein, Pomerania Feb 45. My question is: Its late in the game are they still wearing the greatcoats or would they have been substituted by a parka of sorts? If so WH or elite type camo? Are they wearing white snow covers onthe helmets? Leather high boots or ankle highs with gaiters. Are there any pictures of his engagement available? Thanks for your help as I would like him to be as excact as possible.

Best thing I can think of, apart from asking here, is to contact 'POMERANIA 1945' reenactment group. Yes, there is such a group :) Although they are from Poland, you can easily reach them by mailing to: pomerania1945@interia.pl . They do speak English. Its a very high-profile group, often taking part in films, shows etc.

Although their webpage is in Polish only, you can still take a look on their galleries:

Highly recommended.

As you seem to like them, here are some more materials:

Pomerania during film shooting (fiction series for Polish TVP - located in Silesia in 1945, good pics of uniforms to see !):

French SS troops fighting in Hammerstein in 1945 wore a mixture of white 'shell' suits and standard greatcoats. They were not given any special winter jackboots or other such things.
The snow suits were the baggy, unlined, white ones.
They had wool gloves, mittens, toques and scarves.
'Rear echelon' troops were issued with the late war greatcoat which had the really big collar and the integral hood.
They were not issued any specialist camouflage parkas or padded camouflage trousers.

Cheers,
