An update to this thread:
I purchased a regular (not vintaged) smock- as a substitute before I order my Gmax- for an event in 3 weeks time.
I thought to get the regular one and let it fade in the sun naturally...
Logic said that by leaving it in the sun the darker colors would fade while the lighter background would not, or not as much. The contrary happened!! The background became an off white/cream color while the browns and greens stayed virtually the same!!
Ok, I suppose in the UK if it's not raining it's about to rain  but in any case I would suggest not to do it.
Here the results

Not a total loss. Try a light dye or a teabag bath to darken it again. This is a photo of an origional step in from German Paratroopers in North Africa by John Hodgin.

How long did you leave that smock in the sun?!?!?!?!

Well I thought 3-4 days would do the trick... they did...
The unbelievable thing is how the dark colors were almost not affected by the sun at all
The teabag bath (left it in there for another 2 days) had an imperceptible effect, will try to find appropriate dye and have a go at it.

I see GMAX are not taking orders & the SMW splinter B is Ok & I have one of their Kanal Jackets ( very nice ) but our $ exchange rate makes them both worth the same as a Good WW2 Rifle to buy  ,So I want it mainly for Africa & Italian front reenacting ,should i get one ? ,OR ...your thoughts please. cheers dave

basically your question has been awnsered 10 times in this thread. As you will read, you will get many oppinions, as peoples expectations and standards are different.

End of the day, if you like the product, then buy it. It you dont when u get it, sell it.

I think the Barry Lyndon will be fine. If you are really on a budget, Ebay has a used ATF smock for only $70 (It expires in about 2 days)

Good Luck
