Was the 'Rucksack' also used by FSJ (fornstance by units in ground combat) ? If so are there any photographs of FSJ wearing the on the back....?

Yes it was used by fj, but was dumped when troops got into the combat area.

Usually, baggage like this stayed with the unit transport or the train. It is therefore quite difficult to find pictures of FJ carrying them as they were swift-moving and unit transport often enough had a hard time catching up with them.
It is interesting that mostly you see FJ carrying nothing much besides annunbition, breadbag and a canteen.
