FJ veteran on Southsea Common

Post by carentan »

The last place I expected to meet an FJ vet was 2 mins from my front door on Southsea Common.

We did a small display for the British Para Veterans show, second year running, and that's when we meet Konrad Meyer.

So thats who that gentleman was!

BTW, was nice to meet you guys. A small display, but one that attracted a lot of attention. When they do the next Veterans show down there, they should get rid of the stalls selling crap that were on the far side of the arena

Konrad still has a strong accent, so far when he was wounded and captured he was part of FJR22. He was an MG gunner and had fought in Northern Russia. I didn't get many personal details, number, on the day but he and his wife have invited us to their house for a proper chat.

Hi,
Darren, consider yourself a lucky devil and learn as much from the old eagle as you possibly can.
When they are gone, it is up to us to preserve what knowledge they managed to pass on to us.

best regards,
Volker
