Trying the cheap route, need some advice

Post by Mikkel »

I'm trying to assemble a basic fallschirmjäger outfit. It's currently only for airsoft, so it doesn't need to be superior uniform pieces. That being said, I AM a stich-nazi at heart, so bad uniform parts will not do either :)

I have been lookign at these items to begin with:

Jump smock:

http://cgi.ebay.com/WWII-LW-Fallschirmj ... dZViewItem

The print one these two are worlds apart, so at least one of them is way off. Which one is good and which is bad? (Or if both is bad, which of these two retailers have the best splinterB?)

Tropical shirt:

Would this have been unseen in the european theatre in '44-'45?

Jump trousers:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=005
I know his wool have been very bad in the past, have this improved, or should i stay away from it?

If the woll is ok, what about this fliegerbluse?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=005

Helmet:

Webbing and such stuff i will get from the regular european suppliers, as there seem to be no real alternative.

This plus some webbing and a pair of boots, should add up the basic fallschirmjäger field uniform?

Neither of the patterns of the sumpf are really good but the Barry Lyndon works best for me, keiths is just a bit too BGS. The new Sturm sumpf is said to be good, i really like the old SM Wholesale print.
The Fleigerbluse from Barry has wool thats a bit on the thin side, the insignia isnt upto much and you will want to change the buttons.

Neither of those two tan & water smocks are good in my opinion.
Better off getting one of Sturms Tan&water smocks (there is better but you say you want it to be cheep)

For splinter smocks - under £100, your best bet is Barry Lyndon
For green step in smocks - take a look at Keiths

Tropical shirt - not good for NW Europe 44-45. get a standard heer grey shirt or 40's civilian shirt

Jump Trousers - I think keiths look better than Barry's

Fleigerbluse - From what I've seen, Barrys FB aren't that bad for late war impression

Helmet - I think the Indian copies are better shape but need liner replacing (Barry can supply liner). Indian copies can be found on ebay - various sellers - if you search forums you'll find more on this
