SS-FJ camo rank patch

Post by John Wilson »

Just a thought, would the SS-500 have the straight bars on the sleeve of the jump smock or the wing shaped type?

SS- 500 had the black/green straight bars (standard for SS) on the sleeve.

I've been looking alot at pictures and I can't remember seeing a Waffen-SS rank patch on a FJ-smock in Btl.500.

P.S. Thank you, I've spotted 3 SS-Fallschirmjäger wearing spectacles in my books during a search for the rank insignia. One in combat with gasmaskspectacles on! Blue bible page 95 on the bottom: look at the MG42 gunner. Other one p.121 the woonded soldier on the carriage.

The officer extending his hand could be the commander of SS-Jagdverband "Mitte", SS-Hauptsturmführer F u c k e r. Honestly, that was really his name!

I have to say that I've only ever seen the rank devices worn on a smock in the picture Jon has posted. Nothing in the Kunzmann/Milius book........................................and I regard that book as the pictorial bible for SS FJ!

Ive only seen one photo with a German soldier wearing the subdued rank patch, :?
and he was a Wehrmacht officer and was wearing the WH splinter smock.
The pic was from the book "German Uniforms", can't remember the author
as i haven't got the book to hand but the cover has the "famous" pic of
the Gebirg in colour manning an MG !!

Regards Peiper.
