My 1/6th SdKfz251D a WIP

Post by pzrwest »

Well you could say Santa came early this year. A good friend I met on the SAG forum, Ron(sgtschultzII) has sent me the running gear, track, front end, and other parts from a 1/6th SdKfz251. So I've started to scratchbuild a SdKfz251D. I have a 1/18th scale 251D halftrack and I am useing it for my dimensions, and angles, etc. Here are the first set of pics of the halftrack under construction. Comments are welcomed.... Harold

PS.... ya you do need alot of masking tape!!!!
Update:
Well the halftrack is progressing slowly. Have assembled the track, added the front axel assembly(not glued in yet), worked up the engine compartment sides, and the lower hull sides and rear panel. The internal braces are just temporarily tack glued in place

Thank you Franz
Update:
The work continues on the halftrack. I have the upper hull sections cut out and taped in place. I have the cardstock templates for the front vision section, top of the engine compartment and front of the engine compartment taped in place to test the fit. Old record cases do come in handy for making templates. I hope to cut and fit the cardstock pieces from styrene today to the upper hull section. It's really starting to take shape and the size is gigantic compared to the 1/18th scale model I used to aid in this build. As always comments are welcomed. Here are the latest pics

Thank you Jonathan.
Update:
The factory workers have been hard at work this afternoon. They have removed the cardstaock templates and replaced them with styrene. After the glue had set they went to work sanding the seams, tomorrow they will fill the seams. Here are the pics of their labor

I have been asked to take a couple pics of the 1/18th scale 251D halftrack beside the 1/6th one to get a size difference between the 2 scales.

nice, now top it off with an MG42 and a gunner with like 3 belts on him lol
thats probably the most fun Id have with one of those, equipping the crew.
My plans were to paint it normandy camo, build some stacked logs for the front plate, tree branches for further concealement...

As I said the halftracks are on hold at the moment. I just got another universal carrier commission to do. This will be the 4th one. Everytime I go to build one for myself someone wants to buy it
