Tanaka Mauser Gew. 33/40 Mountain Rifle AEG replica

Post by mario33 »

Lookig for advice on buying that rifle. We're planning to buy them in some numbers as a model gun for displays. We're not planning to use'em much in airsoft activities therefore we're much more interested in durability and external looks than reliability of airsoft 'inners'.

Have anybody got/seen that rifle in her/his hands and may provide with first-person opinion ?

Is there any retailer that may provide them in some numbers (5 ?) and be willing to negotiate good price for such a group buy ?

REALLY IMPORTANT: It's not an AEG. It's a gas powered bolt action rifle... :)

I have the standart K98, and all i can say is it's stunning... I've got my wood darkened so now it looks really really good...

I don't know that much of the G33/40 but i think it's just shorter version of mine... :D

My fault, I thought about gas and put electric... Still looking for an opinion..

How did you get your rifle's wood darker ?

I would say it's an expensive option to take if you're not going to fire them - they retail somewhere between £300-400.

Far better to go for the Dboys K98 - much cheaper, and has full working bolt and shell ejection.

Steiner, there are several reasons for choosing that rifle, the most important being we're portraying Gebirgsjager - mountain troops :)

Other, also important factors are:
- Tanaka gun is 'all-metal'; Dboyi still got some plastic parts;
- Tanaka guns are much closer to original;
- overall look quality is just not comparable...

We're going for the quality, not cheaper options. Believe me, we tested Dboyi very closely :) We got good quality alu cast replicas in original woods. We need something a step up. We're prepared to pay more as quality usually costs...

Since last Friday I'm a happy owner of Tanaka Works' Gew. 33/40 replica. I think its of exceptional quality and highl level of fidelity to the original. Maybe apart from the loading mechanism (no shell cases used, 10 BB's in the magazine instead). Properly waffenamt-ed and marked 'dot 1942' (stands for 'Brno works').

Some piccies:

Tanaka markings are mostly hidden under the wood:

Mario, congrats on your Gew. 33/40 - I'm picking one up at the end of September, my 98k needed a 'little brother' lol.

If you strip down the rifle, you'll be able to remove the ZF-41 scope mount :D

Mario, I have to take back my earlier post.

I picked up my G33/40 yesterday afternoon and stripped it down when I got home.

Unfortunately, if you just remove the scope mount plate - there's a horrible cut out section.

I hadn't realised the scope mount plate was so 'integrated' into the upper wood piece.

I'm tempted to get a custom upper wood piece made, which removes the indentation and cutout for the mount.

Goodness :shock: And to think that's not even needed to fit a zf41!!

Can you replace the Zf41 mount with a regular rear sight? I can do that with my original....
