You will always get people who want to critisise anything - and I mean anything - to do with the Third Reich. It's got nothing to do with these people actually knowing much about history or really caring about the issues surrounding it.

It's purely because they want to feel righteous. No more than that.

Constructive criticism is fine , but the article lacks balance and reality.
If the author could find a Flower Class or a WW2 destroyer which fought in the BoA he would be doing very well.

This is a great find. u-778 should have been fitted with an 88mm, however it was missing. did it perhaps get blown off when sunk?

u-boot VIIC stats

top speed surface: 18 knots (Diesel)

top speed underwater: 8 knots (electric)

type of sub: coastal

VIIC submarines were costal. however during the outbreak of world war 2 they were forced into ocean service, having a crew of 45 the VIIA VIIB and VIIC were the most famous. later subs had 105mm naval guns for surface action

shame, perhaps someone should suink that moron that did that article, then we could perhaps focus on preserving history rather than trying to whitewash it.

Or some serious enthousiasts could fundraise the money and do it themselves....

If you got 1000 people to donate £10 each you'd have £10'000 already, that would probably get you somewhere. After you have that, I'm sure more serious funding would come, there are billions of people out there and millions have the money to spare for a little donation. Even if every member of this forum donated £10 we'd be up quite a bit.

Having been born & bred in the city quoted in the above article and living here all my life I can confidently say that most people of this city were and still are in favour of raising any U-Boat that was once berthed on its quayside for the simple reason that it’s part of the history of this city. As fate would have it this city held the most important Allied naval base in the whole of the European Theatre of Operations in regards to the protection of Allied Atlantic convoy fleets and the re-supply of Britain’s war effort during WW2, and following the cessation of hostilities and the capitulation of Germany the entire Atlantic fleet of what remained of German U-boats were moored on the very river that runs right through the heart of this city so It’s only natural that most of its inhabitants would be interested in seeing a rusty old artefact that gave Churchill many sleepless nights.

The author of that article is/was a biased hypocrite who only cares to partially remember British history because what the Nazis attempted to carry out in the 1930s and 40s was nothing more than a concentrated and speeded up version of what the British had achieved over many centuries, ie, world domination or at the very least as much as they could get their bloodied hands on. The reality is the Nazis took a leaf straight from the book of British global colonial terrorism because the British were masters of it, and It’s also a fact that Hitler and the Nazis never intended to go to war with Britain in the first place because they admired their cultured heritage and their long colonial history.

What the author cares to forget is how did the British achieve their global Empire which I’m sure he and many like him are very proud of? The answer to that is exactly how the Nazis tried it on in the 1930’s and 40s, by becoming uninvited guests into other nations that were mainly smaller/weaker or noticeably more primitive to theirs, and by attempting to create “colonised living space” for themselves and their loyal subjects that inevitably resulted in the mass slaughter of any natives who showed a hint of resistance. Period. There are just too many similarities and parallels between Nazi Germany and the once so called “Glorious British Empire“. Churchill was quoted in a speech after WW2 when he said, “Britain stood alone for six years with the aggression and tyranny of Nazi Germany hanging over it’s head” (or something to the words of that effect) and his quote proves that he was an extremely biased and ignorant hypocrite because he ignores the fact that Ireland stood alone not for six years but for more than six centuries with the aggression and tyranny of Britain not hanging over it’s head but being forced down its throat.

Just 25 years before Churchill made that famous speech he and his British cabinet ministers who were in government in the early 1920s and during the Irish War of Independence gave the Irish people the ultimatum of accepting a treaty that divided the island of Ireland in to two separate British states with the formation of a British neo colonial “Free State” in the south with freedom being given only in name with the condition of first swearing allegiance to the King of England, Or the alternative was to suffer the consequences of total and all out war and the mobilisation of hundreds of thousands of highly trained British troops fresh out of WW1 into Ireland and the annihilation of the Irish people.

Sounds just like a page from Mein Kampf doesn’t it? and it would be laughable if it didn’t happen.

What this guy proves is that anyone reading his article who is even remotely educated in British history that he’s nothing more than a thick black pot calling the kettles black and thankfully his hypocritical writing days are over because he’s been dead since 2009.

Yes the U boat(s) should be raised and restored as a fitting memorial to all protagonists in WW2.

I have nothing against raising and restoring this U-boat, but let us not call it a monument of anything. It can be an exhibit but not a monument for Gods sake.

Why do you write "British" if you use word "Nazis"? Be consistent and either write "British" and "German" or "Nazis" and Conservative nad Labour Party members.
