alternative source for (german) ww2 tents

I have got an original Gebirgsverbindezelt (used as a operating theatre by Hauptverbandplatz of the Gebirgsjäger Sanitats Kompanie) which is now a very pale grey (near white). Under the seams it was a stone grey fabric - having seen Tentsmith's grey fabric, it's a little bit too light, even after 60 years of fading. Over the years I've seen about 40 or so of the Stabzelt, and all have been varying shades of tan and brown for the Tp marked ones. Never seen any green tents or found a reference to them - not to say they didn't exist though.

The Stabszelt folds down to about 2' square and about 8" high. You then have the ropes, poles and pegs. Overall weight is probably about 40lbs.

I'll try and get some shots soon - I have to get them out of storage first!

being curious: what's the size & weight packed of it?

just a tip: I think our tent might be called "Gebirgs- Verbindungszelt" instead of "Gebirgsverbindezelt"

My zeltbahn gib was abit tongue in cheek, but seriously now, just think - you can make a 10 man tent out of zeltbahns, it looks period, costs as much and looks the dogs danglies. Orrrr, you can use a heavy, pain in the ass, "look alike" British tent, which now everyone knows what the original German ones look like, know it looks nothing like them.

I can see the prices of these British tents shooting up again now - in preparation for the onslaught of re-enactors...

I have Zelts but even when buttoning 8 together they are too low, besides i want a larger
type for display purposes, if you can think of a repro German tent supplier that sells tents
for reasonable prices that don't take the piss then please share that info and we will all buy
one, but judging from events ive gone to some reenactors are still ten years behind as they
are still using ex surplus tents :?:

I thought that as well, but all the original documents refer to it as a 'Gebirgsverbindezelt' (always all one word). As a contrast, the regular sanitatstruppen used a 'Verbindezelt' which is also referred to as 'Operationszelt' in the manual (merkblatt 53d/63 - dated November 43).

Simples - get 15 zelts instead. Make a long sectioned pole.....and your cooking on gas....well.....we know what happens when people do that in zelts..... :lol:

They get called a farb?
The gebirgstruppenzelt does look a good bit like an 80lb or even 160lb tent? Lower walls and no ridge pole but the style is there. How do they compare size wise?

is your tent also from the tentsmiths?

@ Feldjager: do you also have approx. size & weight of the Gebirgstruppenzelt packed?

because that would also be a criteria which one to choose, thanks

Nice Staff tents but it seems no poles are included, is this correct ?

Just a quick couple of questions if you wouldn't mind, the prices are
$635 (small size) $725 (large size), would you know the exchange in
sterling and also would you have any idea of postages prices to UK as
it is not mentioned on their web-page ???
