I think you've got a good size range with the smaller mountain troops tent and the staff tent - is there a need/demand for a larger tent? There are numerous options (and originals available on request...) if this was a direction you'd like to explore.

Dave

Many thanks Dave!

I kind of agree with you there. I absolutley adore the mountain tent and intend to strap one on my Harley and use it when out and about! If folks would want a larger tent then that can be done too and thank you for your offer and will take you up on that as and when folks let us know they would like one.

........now we just have to get the colour right :?

Hi Guys, have been looking for the right tent for quite a while, in the end we decided to have a go at making one ourselves.

It took two years to source the material we wanted and studying photographs and going through books including the one specifically on tents that has been previously mentioned.

It is surprising how many photographs are available but they do not contain the finer details such as the inside of the windows. We guessed that there was a frame on the inside but with no photos or original drawings to go by we have left it for now.

The windows on my originals have a pocket sewn on 3 sides, with a flap on the top that fastens down with toggles. The window was cellulose in a metal frame - to use it you slid it into the pocket and secured it in place at the top. This was removed when the tent was taken down to prevent it from being damaged (cellulose being brittle and that). When in transit, it was placed in between 2 sheets of wood and placed at the top of the bag. I've never seen a frame, but they are shown in the relevant manuals. All my originals have this feature in the staff tents.

Thanks to Feldjager for his quick information regarding windows in original tents. You mention that they can be seen in relevant manuals, is it just a matter of searching or do you know of any manuals that can be purchased.

Thanks again for your help.

Just search for them - I'll try and find them and pull out the relevant numbers. One is an H.Dv , a few are the D type and there are some merkblatter as well.

Do any of your manuals show small - 2 or 3 man size - tents in splinter camo? A friend had 3 small tents many years ago, one slightly larger than the other 2, in splinter (the larger) and desert tan. Unfortunately he sold 2 of them without telling me. Then some years later the last one went away. He had gotten them from a vet who picked them up in North Afrika.
I would guess these were officers tents, but???? The splinter and one of the tan ones had commercial makers tags on them, the other was unmarked.
I have a large piece of Janke splinter camo material and would like to make a copy of the larger tent, IF my friend can find the measurements he did long ago.

Ive seen them only in so-called Reichswehr 2 or 3 colour camouflage.

Good alternative is to buy Swedish grey zeltbahn. The shape and style identical to the original German one, this type of zeltbahn were used at the beginning of the war as a remnant of the Reichswehr, and at the end of the war they used simply everything, there is Wochenschau where you can see Latvian volunteers dressed in a grey zeltbahn.

Could be the mid section of a Verwundenzelt or Krankenzelt 99. Side walls look a little too high for a Truppenzelt.
Camo was normally put on after the tent was manufactured (several of my originals have no camo dye/paint where the seams have come apart, suggesting it's not made from printed cloth).
