We chose Balkans because of the climate match with South Africa - 10 months out of 12, it is too hot to wear wool here! We also have the hills and scrub to match, so... fingers crossed!

Less than a month to go - below a shot from another Balkans-themed patrol we did in May.

Looks like you guys had a great time - looks pretty arid out there, what was the average temperature?

7C during the night, 30C by midday. Regardless of whether you had full wool (our Hauptfeldwebel) or stripped-down HBT (everyone else), you suffered. We also went through 3x full jerry cans of water in the space of 24h - roughly 60 liters between 6 guys.

...and this was the first weekend of spring. By the time December and January rolls on, we have night temperatures of 25~30C and daytime peaks of 35~40C. It gives a very unique window into what the Afrika Korps and other hot-climate units had to go through during the war.
