farbtastic..I want to make a dickie..help?

Post by Stigroadie »

I bought a cheap M43 5 button tunic that I would like to cut down to make a dickie to go under smocks in the heat of the British summer.
Any ideas/photos of your versions I can use to help me butcher mine?
Dont worry, it's a pretty crappy version, the collar thankfully is one of the better parts.

Come to the South in the US during July and August and then you will feel real misery

39 degrees with 90% humidity

I've got also one, after Neils example... Neil told me I needed more sholder, as his lacks that and it hurts with the Y-straps on.

It's a bit awkward for me, but what is a "dickie"? A shortened tunic?

Best regards,

No, a cut down tunic.
The sleeves are removed and much of the wool just leaving the collar and the very top of the button closure, which is all that is visible under a smock, and the lining.
Dickies were originally shirt fronts with collars that were worn under a waistcoat.
The idea is to be cooler under the layers of the smock.
