Period pictures are the way to go regarding the correct way to wear anything, and has been stated previous there will a few picks against the norm, just use some comman sence.

In Finnish army we have written rules on how to wear things, was wondering if Germans had the anything similar

I think Morigi's used to sell repro's of these which had been translated,
can't find em on his site now, dunno if anybody else does these though ???
