I saw one of these for sale
but I havent seen any pics of soldiers using it in the battle field.
so would it be to late war to use?

Do you want to be the FARB that ruines the impression of the entire group or do you portray Volksturm?

Not too late, but Volkssturm only. I've always wondered if it is a Volkssturm-gewehr or a Volks-Sturmgewehr
There are some examples of Volkssturmmänner using these. A couple I've found on my computer:
Volkssturm wearing furcaps and VG's (taken from a Wochenschau, it also shows later on a large group who get their VG's in 1945).
The Volkssturm Zugführer on the left has one (note the MG42 and K98 with scope!)

I've fired one of those - SHEEESH! The whole top assembly cycles. And the recoil is HARSH.
