He done well because he was portraying a character very similar to what he would like to be in real life, slightly upperclass nieve twit. Playing a german will actually require some acting ability and who knows if he really has any of that

I'm slightly amused by an apparent cinematic snob who has a Bart Simpson avatar. ;)

Can't see the problem to be honest, he's a solid actor, this might be his grounding of his future quality.

My boy jack indeed was a nice movie, but him in a German role (e.a. speaking with a british accent) will spoil it :|

Dude, I grew up on war movies where most of the actors were brits,to me it just wasn't unusuall to hear the accent comeing out of a Feildgrau uniform,it wasn't untill years later I realized that it wasn't a German accent (waddya want from me I was 3 when I saw my first movie  ). I personally think both of the early (33 and the late 70s versions) where fine and I don't see a reason to remake any of the classics, I mean, really, who would you select to portray Capt Hilts in Great escape?, there isn't an actor today who has the uber cool syle of Steve Mcqueen,or any of the greats of the day,Brit or Ami.

That is why they have voice coachs , as far as I am aware the lad himself does not come from an upper class background and as far as being a "twit" goes , none of us know him that well - as far as earnings go - for a "twit" he has done quite well so far . ;) .
I think he is more than a one trick pony but time will tell.

You could not have found anyone more divorced from being a German than "John Boy Walton" and that remake was not such a disaster - having said that the black and white one still takes some beating - a class act to follow.
The main character in the book , middle class and slightly well to do ...certainly a young man who was naive in his out look on life and who was ignorant of death.

that was a really good film, yes the accents do de-tract from the atmosphere but it was still such a good film.

I think the young man could do a reasonable German accent if coached , he is still young and still has much to learn but if you look at the MBJ dvd extras he does not come across as an airhead.

Found this in my Dvds which I had forgotten about - the young man at 10 years of age was involved in making quality drama.

I'd rather just watch the 1970s version with its American cast (minus Bilbo of course). For some reason their accents seemed pretty realistic, even though they weren't attempting any.

But judging by DR's performance in My Boy Jack I think it might be pretty good. Unless of course they fool around with the equipment and trenches and make it look like it isn't the 1914-18 western front.
