As this topic has been revisited I looked up our old Awards System - Perhaps people might find merit in it still and if they do then feel free to use it. It worked very well as a motivational tool as well as a moral booster. It also regulated the bling virus and kept superfluous tin to a minimum. Don't knock it - it's history now and to be honest I don't give a tinker's cuss if modern day re-enactors think it's toss or not..... It was a tried and tested, proven system of its day. Could and in some cases still does work today,
AWARDS SYSTEM GERMAN SECTION A.F.R.A.
Points system to gain awards and decorations as a participant in AFRA activities.
This is a morale booster and an incentive to attend and work for the benefit of the group. Awards are not intended to represent any senior status or bestow special privileges upon recipients but are merely a visible means of expressing thanks from the group as a whole.
As of Jan 1 2000:
All existing members of AFRA will be entitled to wear the following awards/decorations providing they can satisfy the conditions for award.

Winterschlact im Osten Having participated in an action for one day or more where there
(Russian Front) was SNOW either falling or settled upon the ground. This can be
Ribbon in 2nd buttonhole at either a private OR a public event.

Eisern Kreuze 2nd Klasse 200 points or a significant contribution to the group. This will be
(Iron Cross 2nd Class) deemed as staying with the group through the split and working
Ribbon in 2nd buttonhole through the first season to ensure the group’s success.

War Merit Cross 150 points or a contribution to the group deemed to be a lesser
Ribbon in 2nd buttonhole one than befits the EK2 (e.g. did not attend the majority of events)

Wound badge (various grades) The recipient of a wound badge MUST have suffered an injury
Black 1 – 2 wounds during a battle re-enactment. This must be reported or noted by
Silver 3 – 5 wounds (or stitches) another member of the group and the number of “wounds”
Gold 6 + wounds (or fracture) received should correspond to the badge worn.
Left breast pocket

Infanteriesturmabzeichen This is awarded for participation in Three public battles during
Infantry Assault in Bronze ONE season lasting more than one day. (weekend events)
Left breast pocket There is no other criteria for the award of this badge.

POINTS SYSTEM TO GAIN AWARDS

Points can be obtained in the following number by the following actions. Points will commence on 01.01.00 and all members will automatically receive 10 points when they join. Existing members will be awarded 10 points on 01.01.00 in recognition of their previous service.

No of points Award criteria
1 point Each day’s attendance at a public event. Each day’s attendance at a private event.
Contribution to an issue of the newsletter regardless of number of articles.

5 points Satisfying the turn out requirements for kit on inspection.

10 points For attending a full weekend public event

200 points A significant contribution to the group. (this would be seasonal and the award made at the end of the season)
Examples are : Acquisition of a vehicle used in group displays -The provision of a large amount of display material on a regular basis – Action resulting in a paying show –


1000 points An act of outstanding heroism and or bravery that results in the prevention of serious
injury or loss of life. This can involve a member of the public or other re-enactment group but must be performed whilst on duty with AFRA. and must be verified.

TO THE GROUP RECOMMENDED BY ANOTHER

GERMAN CROSS IN GOLD 800 or OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION
TO THE GROUP RECOMMENDED BY ANOTHER

KNIGHTS CROSS 1000 or OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION
TO THE GROUP RECOMMENDED BY ANOTHER or ACT OF BRAVERY

TANK DESTRUCTION BADGE A SPONTANEOUS ACT DURING A
RE-ENACTMENT THAT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN THE DESTRUCTION OF AN ARMOURED VEHICLE USING A
GRENADE , FAUST, SHAPED CHARGE OR MINE BY AN INDIVIDUAL.
MUST HAVE 2 WITNESSES

TRADE SPECIALIST BADGE THE WEARER MUST CARRY OUT THIS DUTY ON A REGULAR BASIS AT PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SHOWS – EXAMPLES ARE ARMOURER, DRIVER etc.
DISCRETIONARY AWARD –
MUST BE APPLIED FOR.
