Temporary Winter Camo

Post by valkyrie895 »

Gentlemen,

I have heard of people using ground chalk mixed with water to "paint" their helmet white for a winter event. Has anybody got experience in this method? or have another method for doing it so that i dont have to paint it white then repaint it feldgrau?
Danke,

Yes, just crumble regular drawing chalk, mix it with water and paint in on your helmet. It will look very odd when still being wet, but after it has dryed it will give a 100% white surface. Just put it under water when your done with it and it will fall off.

... just add a drop or two of detergent to allow it to spread properly, rather than beading up...

You can also use white cloth as helmet cover:

Yes, that's an interesting picture. But now we are on this subject now, why not go deeper into it? For all I can see on original pictures the bedsheets on helmets and uniforms are mostly on the eastern front. And when I look at pics of the battle of the Bulge I see very little white camouflage.

Just my 2 cents.

Hello Erik
Germany army used issue paint same paint they used on equipment guns panzers etc when short they did use chalk paint problem today most so-called chalk is gypsum my friend.
Original chalk winter paint is fairly easy to spot on helmets even from wartime b/w photos basically it covers poorly correct issue is a heavy paste. I know an old gentleman who actually fought and survived on the Eastern Front they never ever used lacquer white paint in combat btw. contrary to what helmet dealers may say.

Kind Regards
Eric
