That is a nice one, wondered what had happened to that, he brought it to beltring in 2007

FHF of Sweden got one of their earlier builds. Perhaps it was the one that was at beltring in 2007.
They are museum quality copies of the real deal, the builder have made it side by side of an original.
The landrover based ones are, well...a bit off if you have looked anough at the originals.

It have recived lots of extra work since it was aquired, so all the little details are also taken care of.
We don't seem to have any pictures of it online I'm afraid, but it's really pretty :)

I wonder why they would not be able to register it for road use? Obviously all countries differ in their requirements etc. Over here would it not be possible to either;

A) Register it on the former chasis/drivetrain (if the vehicle keeps a certain percentage of another etc)

B) Regsiter it as a new or kit car. This would then need to go through an SVA and would get a Q plate etc.

just thinking of some of the custom cars and hot rods that I have seen on the road. If they have got through, why not the 222?

It relates to the Con & Use regs (from memory) and some of the EU legislation regarding the angles and nature of materials used for construction that prevent them being registered by the DVLA. I've got a written explanation here somewhere, I'll try and pull it out.

Maybe its still held together with luggage straps!!

I looked on in horror as he had to literaly get ratchet straps and winch the two halves of the vehicle together, there were straps holding the front VW beam in place, runing fore and aft!!!!

No it' s certainly not. The chassis on that SdKfz222 on the Belting show has been flung on the trash heap. Although it was already the 2nd truck based on that construction, we pushed the limits of weight too much. It was our objective to construct a complete truck less than 1400kg, easy to transport with a normal trailer.

The chassis was an new made construction in folded metal sheet, the axis were adapted VW axis, VW engine with custom made planetair transmissions. At the end of the construction we didn't meet our goal of 1400kg because of the unexpected heavy gun turret construction. So we had to take weight wherever possible, one week before the show.
That is how that truck came up to the show and every possible thing that could go wrong, happened (broken suspension and transmission shifter, stolen trailer boards..)

After this adventure, we tried to repair the broken things and the truck did some re-enacting events but at the end, it was still fragile. So we decided to abandon the lightweight project and start with a total new concept. There is not any chassis that realy fits with a 222 body, so we had to make our own chassis again and used now the 100ps engine and transmission of a Mercedes truck. Again we made some new pieces for suspension and tranmission but without the severe weight restriction. The weight without body is almost 1500kg. Also it took a year to test the truck thoroughly, just to prevent an other horrible experience like on the W&P show. By now we have a very good concept, the truck is very strong and reliable. Last weeks we added still some little features on the interior.

Last summer we did some test rounds on the Belgian army site were they exercise with their CVR(T)'s. A friend (project1944.be) made some short trailers on youtube:

Thank goodness for that! You looked great in your panzer beret etc, so did the vehicle, but I did cringe at the ratchet straps!!!

Trial and error and all that, the idea is a great one because to get a realistic vehicle it really has to be rear engined, the front engined ones push the crew too far back inside the vehicle!

I just watched the vid's, very nice!!! Proper driving position!!!! you can see where you are going!
