On early war photos, vehicles are often shown with the tips of thier front and rear bumbers painted white. This dosent seem to be the case on all photos however.
Do any of the faithful know if this was ever officially sanctioned and if so if it was ever officially cancelled?
Detailing my vehicle and I just want to get this right.
Cheers
Neil

Re: Quick Question
Franz! Where are you?
I don't know the hard dates etc you are looking for Neil, I had surmised it died out as a practice when the grey was replaced by Dunkelgelb as the standard vehicle colour in early 1943, as insufficient contrast for it to be worth doing (to aid seeing the vehicle in front at night). Seems to have been a peacetime practice that only carried over into the early war years for as long as the vehicles themselves existed... i.e. replacements didn't generally have the white added?
Joel will quote chapter and verse I am sure!

Re: Quick Question
Some one call !! Ok in the spring of 1940 most Vehicles were painted dark grey but HM .1940 no 864 dated July 31 1940 made this a Standard for all Vehicles and Heavy equipment .
Due to the fact that dark grey is hard to see at night the white bands were used on Soft skins and Half tracks only , The white bands were to be only on the Mud guards ( Fenders ) and bumpers front and rear . With the change to dark yellow the need for this dropped of but did not stop , This again became a more common in the late war another thing that could be found on the rear of vehicles ABSTAND 100 this was a distance marker

Re: Quick Question
Thanks Joel.
I have noticed that the use of white tips/wings isnt total.
Many vehicles even in 1940 dont carry them. Must have been done at divisional level and often missed I guess.
