Replica Stoewer 40 Kfz1

Post by Botty »

A few years ago now I remember seeing a GAZ 'jeep' that had been converted into a replica KFZ1 light passenger car e.g.

Does anyone remember it? Is it still around. Did it make a believable replica? Does anyone know what work was required to make?

The Following is the minimum required to make it a convincing replica.

1. Split and hinge front bonnet, remove existing bonnet hinges.
2. Side vents remove, fabricate replacement correctly vented panels.
3. Cut back front bonnet and front mudguards.
4. Remove front rad grille and fabricate replica.including guard frame.
5. Remove front bumper and fabricate replica.
6. Remove windshield. Fabricate split screen replica.
7. Skin all doors and body panels to cover Gaz/Yac body embossed panels. alter all door handles.
8. Fabricate replica rear bumper.
9. Fabricate soft skin frame.
10. Extend or fabricate new soft skin.
11. Fab new side mirrors.
12. Reposition headlamps.
13. Fab new rear lights.
14. Fab new number plates.
15. Fab new dash panel/ guages and controls.
16. Re-upholster seats.
17. Paint correct colour.
18. Attach prefered div insignia etc.

This is the minimum I would reccommend. I have gone to the length of fabricating front and rear notek lights, because I can, very cheaply.

If you provide the basic vehicle, I can fabricate into a respectful replica for £5K.

Failing that, go and buy an original if you can find one ?

They had messed about with the floor pan on the replica? It is much higher on the Gaz than the Stoewer.

I know someone with a converted Gaz. He has promised me first refusal when he finally decides to sell it.
